10 Wardrobe Essentials

Being a mom requires a lot of running around and being active. I am constantly on the go when I am with my kids. I like to be comfortable but do not like to sacrifice my style. Here are some of my wardrobe staples in general…but these are especially great pieces for a mom!

  1. Burberry Trench Coat – A classic trench coat is a wardrobe staple for not just moms but everyone. If you are looking to invest in a nice coat, a Burberry trench is a great piece to put your money in. It never goes out of style and you will wear it so much. If you are not wanting to spend a lot but need a classic trench coat, there are other options that are great as well. Here are a few of my favorites: J.Crew ($298), ASOS ($98), Zara ($149), Topshop ($150).
  2. Equipment Sweater– Equipment makes fabulous basic sweaters in cashmere that look great alone and are amazing layering pieces. As a mom I am almost always in jeans and love pairing these sweaters over a simple t-shirt with my trench coat or leather motorcycle jacket.
  3. Etoile Isabel Marant Denim Shift Dress– Everybody needs a simple shift dress in their wardrobe. I love this one because it is denim and has a bit of an edge. Also, being denim means it is machine washable which is a huge plus for moms since we are always getting stains from our kids and dry cleaning can get expensive. Shift dresses also look great on all body types. Pair yours with some ballerina flats and trench coat and you are good to go. Here are some other great options that I really like: Cooperative ($69), Current/Elliot ($218), ASOS ($105), Marques Almeida ($715) Zara ($49.90), Marques Almeida ($385).
  4. Rag & Bone Hat-This is a great basic hat. I love the leather detail around it. It is classic and simple. I have a bit of an obsession with hats. Not only do I find them practical but they are also very stylish and add a great finishing touch to an outfit. They are also great to wear if you are having a bad hair day.
  5. Converse Sneakers- Everyone should have a pair of simple white sneakers in their closet…especially moms. Converse are always classic. There are also so many other great options out there if you want something a little different. Here are some of my favorites: Common Project ($410), Benison ($50), Soludos ($89), Maison Margiela ($690), Keds ($40)
  6. Lanvin Flats – Lanvin makes a great simple ballet flat that I find very comfortable. They also come in an array of colors every season but if you are looking to invest in a pair black is always a great color choice and lasts the longest because it does not show dirt as much. Here are some other great ballet flats I love: Chloe ($475), Porselli ($230), Repetto ($295), J.Crew Factory (35)
  7. Bottega Veneta Key Chain– A Key Chain is an essential accessory for a mom. We are throwing everything around and misplacing things constant and if you do not have this you will lose your keys for sure. I have experience with this! Here are some of my favorites: Lenora Dame ($69), Edie Parker ($150), Kate Spade ($48)
  8. Victoria Beckham Tote– This tote is classic and elegant and a beautiful color. Being a mom in the city, having a great tote bag is key for throwing all of your kids stuff in and it also looks chic. I am not really a fan of the diaper bags out there because a lot of them are big and bulky and for the most part not very attractive. I would much rather use a tote bag. There are many great tote bags out there that are so chic and not as expensive as this one. Here are some of my favorites: Mansur Gavriel ($585), Sophie Anderson ($470), Saint Laurent ($995), Madewell ($178), Mystique Straw Tote ($155), Alice D. ($480)
  9. Rag & Bone Boyfriend Jeans– I love a nice pair of boyfriend jeans. The Rag & Bone Dre Jeans are a great option because they have a slim fit but are still slouchy like boyfriend jeans should be. I think Levis and Frame make great options as well.
  10. Frame Denim Tee– Everyone should have a few great basic t-shirts in their wardrobe. Frame makes a great one. I also like this one by Frame. A few other designers who make a great t-shirt are Isabel Marant ($175), Hanes ($4),  Re/Done ($85) and T by Alexander Wang ($85).
