Investing in A Designer Handbag

When shopping for my wardrobe I often have the mindset of less is more when choosing pieces each season. I would rather buy one really nice piece that I can wear for years than a bunch of trendy pieces that I will get sick of after one season. I am always tempted by the trendy pieces and definitely indulge in a fun top or pair of shoes every once in a while…especially if I find them on sale. However, when creating a foundation for your wardrobe, it is important to start with classic pieces that will carry over season after season. One item I think that is worth saving up for and spending money on is a nice designer handbag. Black is always a good color to buy…especially if this is your first investment piece. It is important to buy something timeless and not trendy. There are so many trendy designer handbags out there and it can be overwhelming to choose which one to spend your money on. Here are some of my favorites that in my opinion you just can’t go wrong with. All of these bags will last the test of time and stay stylish and chic for years to come.

It has a strap that you can attach so that you can wear it as a shoulder bag. There is a small size and a large size. The small is much more practical and chic in my opinion unless you are very tall.

2. Valextra Boston Bag ($3,340)- Valextra is an Italian luxury leather goods company that makes beautiful quality bags that are understated, simple, timeless and chic. I love the Boston bag. It is structured, practical and the leather is gorgeous. One of the things I love about Valextra is the lack of logo exploitation. The bags speak for themselves.

3. Bottega Veneta Intreccio Knot Clutch ($1,550)- Crafted in satin with Ayers trim, this is a classic evening bag. It is small but beautiful and elegant. Bottega does make a longer version of this clutch however in my opinion this one is far superior looking.

4. Saint Laurent Small Sac De Jour ($2,990)- I love this style by Saint Laurent. It is structured and roomy inside. There are two main interior compartments so it can hold a lot of stuff. The bag also has a shoulder strap that can be removed making it transition nicely from day to night. I love how this particular one is stamped with a crocodile skin pattern. It gives it a bit of an edge. The style kind of reminds me of the Hermes Birkin because of its structure and sophisticated lines.

5. Chanel Quilted Boyfriend Bag (Not Available for Purchase Online)- This bag is durable and roomy and chic. I love how the hardware is a bit tougher than many of the other Chanel bags giving it a bit of an edge. It is not as “lady like” as many of the other styles which is one of the qualities that makes me like it so much. There are very few Chanel bags I actually love and this is definitely my favorite style. The inside is nice and roomy as well.

6. Delvaux Brillant MM Sellier Satchel ($5,780)- Delvaux is a Belgian company that is the oldest fine leather goods house in the world having been around since 1829. The quality is comparable to Hermes. The handbags are beautifully crafted and the styles are timeless. These bags will definitely last the test of time.
