1. The Oversize Puffer Coat

The puffer coat has been around for a long time however this season it has a new edge with an oversized shape shown by many design houses such as Balenciaga, Burberry and Stella McCartney to name a few. My personal favorite was done by Demna Gvasalia for Balenciaga (pictured above). I love that it was constructed to be worn off the shoulder and has a very oversized shape. Practical? Not really. Cool? I think so. If I decide to buy into this trend I will likely purchase one that will not be worn off the shoulder making it more practical for me trekking through the cold New York City weather with my kids in tow. Nothing sends the message of luxury like velvet. The lustrous fabric has been around for a long time and was once known as the fabric of the aristocracy. Now the fabric is making its way from runway to mainstream fashion. You can find some fabulous velvet pieces from not only high fashion designers like Haider Ackermann, Valentino, Gucci and Stella McCartney to name a few but also more contemporary designers such as Etoile Isabel Marant, Alice and Olivia, 3.1 Phillip Lim, etc. Zara and H&M are offering some fabulous velvet pieces at a fraction of the cost. Below are some of my favorite velvet finds for this season.

3. Animal Print

I always love a well done animal print and this season many designers such as Margiela, Stella McCartney, Dries Van Noten and Christian Dior were showing some version of an animal print. Dries Van Noten was one of my favorite collections for Fall 2016. I love the wide leg velvet pants Dries did (picture above).

4. Intarsia Fur Details

Intarsia fur was all over the runways this season. Intarsia is the intricate cutting and matching of different elements. Designers from Michael Kors to Fendi to Gucci all included a special fur with an intricate intarsia design in their collection. They definitely make a statement.
